Style: Traditional, all though I have used some Classical in the past

I started homeschooling my son 5 years ago in K4. I used the Abeka curriculum for K4-1st grade. While in K5, I introduced my son to cursive writing. Learning from the experience, I would not recommend cursive writing until around 2nd grade, when their motor skills are a little more developed. When we began second grade, I branched out for other curriculum options. We stayed with Abeka Phonics, Math, and handwriting; but used Language Lessons, Story of the World, Spelling Workout, and Apologia Science. For 3rd grade, we decided to try out the Abeka homeschool on DVD's. Much to my surprise they have worked out wonderfully for us and we will use them again for the upcoming school year.

At the beginning of the school year I list my child's schedule on the dry erase board. It consists of all his subjects and 4 piano practices. Because of his attention span, I break up his piano practices into several small sessions throughout the day. Our schedule usually looks something like this: Bible, Arithmetic, Piano, Reading, Language, Piano, LUNCH, Piano, Spelling/Poetry, Reading, History(Science), Piano, Classical Conversations Memory Work.

Abeka Math

I've always used Abeka Math, K5-3rd grades. When I order the dvd's, I receive everything I need for each subject. I do not use any other additional supplements for Math. The teachers on the dvds play several math games with the students. I usually sit with my son and make sure he is participating. I am happy with Abeka Math and will probably continue to use it until around 7th grade. Abeka Math does move rather quickly from one thing to the next. If my son has not mastered something, we work on it until he understands; we will not move on until then. Many times, I have turned off the dvd during Math and we work it together. This helps as Math tends to be my son's weakest area.
